Small Group

If your employees are healthy and happy, it will show through their work, helping your company thrive. If you own a small business (meaning you have fewer than 51 eligible employees), consider purchasing a group health insurance plan from Armor Insurance Professionals to benefit your business and employees as well as their families.

What are the benefits of group health insurance?

  • Tax benefits for your business: All health insurance expenses are 100% tax-deductible as regular business expenses on both state and federal income taxes.

  • Increased employee satisfaction: Your employees will thank you for providing them with health care. Many employees like the convenience of paying a premium, at a lower cost, through their paychecks. Their increased satisfaction means that your employee retention and recruitment will also be higher.

  • Fewer absences and increased productivity: When people can’t afford medical care, they often wait until their illness gets worse. This could lead to more sick days or leaves on disability. When your employees are healthy, they’re more likely to go to work and perform their jobs well.

Is my business eligible for small group health insurance?

By law, a small group is defined as an organization with 1-50 Full-Time-Equivalent (30+ hours per week or 120+ hours per month) employees, including the employer. So, if you are self-employed with no employees, you also qualify for this policy. If you have part-time employees, you can factor them in by using this formula:

  1. Add up the total number of hours worked in 1 month by all part-time employees.

  2. Divide by 120.

  3. The result is the number of  Full-Time-Equivalent employees represented by your part-time employees.

If you have more than 51 eligible employees, consider purchasing large group health insurance, which has specific terms for large businesses, abiding by the Affordable Care Act.

Federal law states that all small group health insurance policies will be guaranteed to any small business who chooses to purchase one. This means that if you own a small business and want to purchase small group health insurance, you cannot be denied due to the health status, age, sex, or other attributes of your employees.
